There are a lot of events in the summer—graduation, prom, birthdays, house parties, etc. With these events is one common thing: they involve flowers in some way. During graduation, you receive tons of flower bouquets from friends and family. During prom, you have to pick out your corsage and boutonniere. You can't go to a house warming party without a gift either. Flowers are pretty, but they are even prettier when you understand their meaning.

So you know what each flower represents next time you're getting them for a special occasion, here is an 11 flower guide to help pick a flower with the best meaning

1. Sunflower

This is my favorite flower. The sunflower symbolizes adoration, loyalty, and longevity.

2. Roses

For roses, there are many different colors, and each color has a different meaning. Not only that, but the number of roses has a meaning as well. Red means love and romance. Pink means gratitude, grace, admiration, and joy. Orange means enthusiasm and passion. Yellow means friendship. White means innocence and purity. One means love at first sight. Two means shared and deep love. Three means "I love you." Six means "I want to be yours"..Seven means "I'm infatuated with you." Nine means eternal love. Ten means "You're perfect."

3. Tulips

Tulips are commonly associated with perfect or deep love. Since they are the first to bloom in spring, they can mean rebirth. In Victorian times, tulips were associated with charity.

4. Daisy

In every culture, daisies have different meanings. The most common meanings are innocence, purity, childbirth, motherhood, and new beginnings. They are commonly brought to new mothers to congratulate their new motherly status.

5. Lily

Just like roses, there are different types of lilies. Since there are different types of lilies, there are different meanings. In general, lilies mean rebirth, motherhood, and good luck. White means purity and virtue. Pink (Stargazers) mean prosperity and abundance. Red means passion. Orange (Tiger) means confidence, pride, and wealth. Yellow means thankfulness and a desire for enjoyment.

6. Hydrangea

Hydrangeas have different colors as well. They represent gratitude, but their colors may say something different. Pink is heartfelt emotion. Blue is frigidity and apology. White is boasting or bragging. Purple is a desire to deeply understand someone.

7. Carnations

Carnations, also with different colors, generally mean fascination, distinction, motherly love, and love. White symbolizes purity and luck. Light red symbolizes admiration. Dark red symbolizes love and affection. Pink symbolizes gratitude. Yellow symbolizes disappointment and rejection. Purple symbolizes capriciousness.

8. Daffodils

Daffodils represent rebirth, new beginnings, and good luck. In some other cultures, they represent good luck, prosperity, and good fortune.

9. Chrysanthemum

Chrysanthemums represent joy and beauty. In the Victorian era, people used the flowers to show friendship and well-wishing. They are also used as a memorial flower in some countries to honor loved ones. Red represents love and deep passion. Yellow represents neglected love or sorrow. White represents loyalty and honesty. Violet represents a wish to get well.

10. Iris
