To My Father

My guy, this one's for you.

To My Father,

Thank you for being my first friend, coach, role model, and everything in between. I cannot begin to explain how my life has been changed for the better because I was fortunate to have you as a parent.

From every breakfast at 5:30 in the morning to every film session at 11 pm, you were there for me every single time I needed you. The thought of another person leading me through life since 1998 is just impossible to comprehend.

Every journey that we have been on together has meant so much to me. College recruiting visits, serious talks at the kitchen table, or just being dudes in the car and talking about anything under the sun. Those are the moments I wouldn't trade for the world.

For as long as I can remember I was seen as a miniature version of you, and it wasn't until recently that I started to take that as a compliment. Because if I grow up to be half the man you are I think my family will be damn proud of me. I always acted like I hated hearing that because I wasn't at an age where I was able to truly comprehend and observe first hand how highly people think of you. You are truly the definition of a people person. You can make the quietest of individuals voice their opinions which is truly mind-boggling to me.

Every speed bump I ever hit, you were there for them all. Every ex-girlfriend, every tough loss, every single one of them you were always there. And you were always good at knowing when and if I needed space. I thank you for recognizing those signs.

So before I go, I would like to say thank you for being the person you are and letting me be the person I am. I know that I was/can be a handful, but I know at the end of the day everything you do is in my best interest. I hope your day is filled with lots of exercise, baseball, and loads of healthy food. I love ya dad.

Kevin

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
